In line with Fr. Vincent's vision for our parish, I would like to challenge our parishioners to take ownership of our church and help us strengthen our community and our faith by becoming involved in family life ministry. We expect so much for the church to "be there" for us and to meet our needs, but yet when we are called to lend a helping hand or to open our hearts to people from different walks of life, we quickly turn away and ignore the calling. As important as all the other ministries are, family life ministry is even more so because we live in a world where the concept of family has become convoluted and at best disregarded as not important. Yet, the family is the first church for all of us. The teachings of Christ and the love of God for us is first learned from our family. We are so quick to criticize the church for not having this or that, or lacking this or that but yet no one takes the initiative to "get down and dirty" and get involved or to even come up with solutions to improve our church. I know, because I was one of them. I didn't want to be "bothered" or didn't want to "take on extra responsibility" because I have sooooo much on my plate, you know with the kids school, kids soccer, my work, etc, etc..... Until, God kind of smack me in the back of my head and said, "how about My works? Who is going to do them? Don't you live only for me? Don't I not always provide and fulfill all your needs? Do you not trust me to know that I know how much you can handle?" And I realize that yes! My time here on earth is to serve Him by serving His people. And at face value it could seem overwhelming, but when I learned to TRUST HIM and LET GO, it became very easy. So, I am giving you the same challenge...to LET GO and LET GOD..... let the Holy Spirit move you and use your talents to serve His people. You will be amazed at the blessings that come your way.....Rachel P.
